One of the most damaging beliefs women carry after divorce is:
"I should be over this by now."
Maybe months have passed.
Maybe years.
And yet certain moments still hurt.
A song.
A memory.
A milestone.
A difficult conversation.
And suddenly you wonder:
"Why am I still affected?"
Emotional healing is not linear.
You don’t wake up one day and suddenly feel nothing.
Healing happens in layers.
You process.
You integrate.
You grow.
Then something else surfaces.
That doesn’t mean you’re going backwards.
It means you’re healing deeper.
Many women are compassionate toward others…
But incredibly harsh toward themselves.
They would never tell a friend:
“You should be over it.”
Yet they say it to themselves constantly.
You are not only grieving a person.
You may be grieving:
A future.
An identity.
A dream.
A version of yourself.
That deserves compassion.
Instead of asking:
“Why am I not over this?”
Ask:
“What is this experience still teaching me?”
Because every layer of healing brings you closer to yourself.
The goal is not to erase your past.
The goal is to reach a place where your past no longer controls your future.
Your story can include what happened…
Without being defined by it.
